Sandwich Tern dive

I’d like to know if there’s some research about the angle of dive which different tern species use. Is the angle they choose merely to do with the depth of the fish they are hunting? Or are there other factors, like how rough the seas are? Or do the species vary in dive angle?

Whatever the reason, this Sandwich Tern was diving about as vertically as it’s possible to dive. Spectacular.
